The commitment was made at the negotiations on development co-operation between the Vietnamese and German governments in Hanoi on May 28 and 29.

The German government also pledged a fund of EUR31 million for environment projects jointly run by Vietnam and other countries under the framework of global climate activities of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).

German Ambassador to Vietnam Jutta Frasch said that this was the best time to conduct negotiations as this year marks the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic ties. Development co-operation is one of the important pillars of bilateral relations, with the aim of helping Vietnam achieve its development goals, she noted.

She added that Germany would continue to be a trustworthy partner of Vietnam in dealing with socio-economic challenges.

Specific projects will be financed such as projects on improving the competitiveness of renewable energy, protecting coastal regions in the Mekong Delta through growing mangroves, and enhancing forestry management in the north and central regions among others.
