Vietnamese revolutionary press day marked nationwide

The Ministry of Public Security held a meeting in Hanoi on June 18 with representatives of press agencies and journalists on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Vietnam revolutionary press (June 21, 1925 -2015).

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang urged press agencies to remain up-to-date on their tasks in order to bring the Party and State's guidelines and policies to the public, while helping shape public opinion to create social consensus.

Particularly in regards to public security work, General Quang said that the press should promptly reflect the practical work and development of the public security force, as well as highlight typical role models in overcoming difficulties to accomplish their tasks, and encourage bravery in the fight against crime, thus contributing to building good role models of public security amongst citizens and international friends.

He added that the in current context of international integration along with opportunities interweaving difficulties, requires journalists to be aware of processing information, for national security, the rights and legitimate interests of organisations and individuals, and strengthening the national unity bloc, to implement the common goal of "a prosperous people, a strong country, and an equitable, democratic and civilised society ".

* The same day, Hai Phong city held a ceremony to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Vietnam revolutionary press and presented the 5th Hai Phong Journalism Awards to 11 winners.

Similar events were also held in Quang Tri and Thua Thien – Hue on the occasion.

* The Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin on Thursday presented the association’s Certificate of Merits to 11 collectives and 25 journalists who had greatly contributed to informing the public on addressing consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam.

* The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs on June 17 awarded the ‘Development of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs’ medal to 25 journalists who contributed greatly to the sector in recent years.

* The Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union on June 18 held a seminar on the role of journalism in educating revolutionary ideals, morality, and cultural lifestyle for younger generations.

Delegates analysed the current status, challenges and lessons learned, and proposed solutions to fundamental innovation in improving the quality of information and media campaigns in the media system towards targeting young audiences, as well as sharing effective education models in revolutionary ideals, morality, and lifestyle for young people.

* A press photo exhibition on the theme of homeland’s sea and islands opened in Hai Duong on June 18, featuring 70 photographs of journalists, photographers and members of Hai Duong provincial Literature and Arts Association taken during their field trips to Vietnam’s Truong Sa  (Spratly) archipelago and other islands belonging to the nation.

The photos depict the scenic beauty of the homeland’s sea and islands, as well as the daily life of fishermen and soldiers who are safeguarding the Fatherland’s sea and sky.

The exhibition will run until June 25.
