A scenario, in which the Dong Anh district’s Medical Centre is informed of patient Nguyen Van X, who recently has returned to Hanoi from the Republic of Korea, is reporting a high temperature.

Immediately, the centre sends a response team to the community to check the situation and bring him to the North Thang Long Hospital. The centre informs the case to the steering committees on preventing MERS-CoV at all levels and the Hanoi Preventive Medical Centre (HPMC) for their support.

HPMC sends a response team to support the hospital to take laboratory samples and send them to the National Institute Of Hygiene And Epidemiology for tests while expanding the epidemiological investigation.

During the rehearsal, the response team took steps to deal with the case, zone off the affected areas, isolate the patient, conduct environmental investigation in the community, as well as practice measures involving receiving the patient, isolating them and testing the hospital environment.

Speaking at the rehearsal, Director of Hanoi’s Health Department Nguyen Khac Hien said that the city has closely monitored prevention measures at Noi Bai International Airport, hotels, urban areas and industrial zones where RoK individuals live and work, as well as at all health care facilities.

The rehearsal will enhance the capacity of management and coodination and effective response to urgent circumstances, realising the Ministry of Health’s resolution in involving all resources and the whole political system in controlling and preventing MERS-CoV from penetrating the country.
