Foreign visitors allowed to bring caravans into Vietnam

Foreign visitors will be able to bring left hand drive caravans into Vietnam for travel purposes, according to the recently issued Government Decree No.57/2015/NĐ-CP.

Decree No.57/2015/NĐ-CP on management of motor vehicles brought into Vietnam by foreign tourists was issued to replace Decree No.152/2013/NĐ-CP dated November 4, 2013.

Under the new decree, foreign visitors are allowed to bring left hand drive vehicles of nine seats or less, left hand drive caravans, and motorcycles into Vietnam - the old decree does not allow foreigners to bring caravans into Vietnam.

The new decree also stipulates the maximum time for the Ministry of Transport to issue a license for these types of vehicles entering Vietnam will be three days, down from five.

In case the Transport Ministry refuses to approve the entry of these vehicles to Vietnam, it must send a written document to explain why to the applicants within three days.

The new decree will take effect August 1, 2015.
