Vice President examines Ha Nam province’s fight against drugs

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan had a working session with Ha Nam provincial People’s Committee on October 1 to examine the province’s progress in preventing and combating drugs in the 2010-2014 period.

At the working session, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Truong Minh Hieu, reported to the State official that Ha Nam has seen positive and effective results in the fight against drugs in the reviewed period.

Accordingly, the number of drug addicts has been reduced and drug addicts are being monitored closely. The province has also expanded rehabilitation treatment for drug addicts.

He also presented the province’s solutions to increase efficiency in the work for the 2016-2020 period, including raising the responsibility of authorised agencies, providing support for those directly working in the field, and furthering busting drug rings and drug dealers in residential areas.

The province will also continue helping drug addicts in detoxifying and seeking jobs after rehabilitation.

Addressing the session, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan praised the locality’s efforts in drug prevention and control.

She called for closer co-ordination among relevant sectors and organisations in realising policies and laws.

It is necessary to raise public awareness on the consequences of drugs and promote healthy role models, she added.

The local authorities were also requested to create favourable condition for drug addicts to reintegrate into the community after rehabilitation.
