Gala night raises fund to support Ha Giang students

A gala night was held in Hanoi on October 1 by actor Hong Dang and Nu Cuoi Am (Warm Smile) Club to launch their charity project ‘Hoang Su Phi Warm Smile’, aimed at raising funds to support students in Tung San commune, northern mountainous Ha Giang province’s Hoang Su Phi district.

Actress Hong Diem from ‘Rainbow of love’ successfully bid on the auction for the photo ‘Looking at the pass’ by photographer Ngo Huy Hoa to raise funds for the project.

In addition to success in several favourite movies like ‘Cau vong tinh yeu’ (Rainbow of love), ‘Chi co the la yeu’ (That's love), and ‘Tuoi thanh xuan’ (Forever young), Hong Dang, is also known as the founder and chairman of Warm Smile Club, a volunteer organisation for the community with volunteer activities to improve living conditions for mountainous students in need.

Despite only being established in early 2015, the club has already implemented effective programmes, especially the project ‘Nuoc sach cho em’ (Clean Water for Kids) which installed pipelines at a length of over 1,400m providing clean water for students and teachers at Suoi Bu secondary school in Van Chan district, northern mountainous Yen Bai province last July.

Talking about the success achieved in the Clean Water for Kids project, Hong Dang also talked about the club's intentions in its journey to support students in upland Tung San commune.

Tung San is one among two communes in Hoang Su Phi without an asphalt road leading to the communes’ centre. The lone route leading to the commune is in rough condition, especially on rainy days. With a main campus and eight sub-venues in eight hamlets, Tung San semi-boarding school includes 458 students studying in 24 classes. Of these, three campuses have not yet been connected to the grid and lacks support facilities and equipment.

Under the Hoang Su Phi warm smile project, the club will donate winter uniforms, present books, backpacks, and school supplies, and build a library for Tung San students.

At the concert, rock band Ngu Cung (Five Tones), Vitamin Band, and violinist Quynh Khanh brought in repertoires and songs about Vietnam, helping the audience visualise the path to the mountainous regions and the lives of children in the uplands.

A charity auction was also held as part of the gala with items including the photo ‘Looking at the pass’ by photographer Huy Ngo Hoa – who is famous among the backpacking tourism community with his beautiful photos and the nickname Hachi8, the photo ‘Spring sprouts’ by famous Hanoian photographer Cao Anh Tuan, and the shirt symbolising the Hoang Su Phi warm smile project with signatures of famous artists such as singers Ho Ngoc Ha, Dam Vinh Hung, Hoang Ton, Trong Hieu, actors Hong Dang, Hai Anh, Viet Anh, Xuan Bac, actreeses Hong Diem, Kim Oanh, MCs Phan Anh, Cong To, Thanh Huyen, and Miss Vietnam 2014 first runner-up Huyen My.

The entire amount collected from the auction and donations at the concert will be transferred to the project’s fund for projects in December.

Warm Smile continues to call for the support of individuals and organisations across the country to join hands to improve the lives of students in Tung San.
