Politburo member visits Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper

Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dinh La Thang on June 15 visited Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) newspaper on the occasion of the 91st anniversary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925-2016).

The Politburo member spoke highly of the newspaper’s achievements and contributions to the overall development of the city, deserving its role as the voice of the city’s Party Committee.

He asked the editorial board to make further investments in infrastructure to catch up with today’s boom in information and social networks.

The publication was also requested to diversify its content and popularise guidelines and directions of the city’s Party Committee to the public.

It was also necessary to enhance Party building and improve qualifications of reporters and editors in order to raise the newspaper’s quality, he added.

The same day, Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper in co-ordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists’ Association held a ceremony to honour winners of a reportage contest.

Entitled ‘Impressions on the land and people of Vietnam’, the contest attracted over 250 entries by writers and reporters across the country; 105 of the most outstanding articles were selected to be published on Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper.

Two second prizes and three third prizes, worth VND 85 million, were presented at the ceremony. No first prize was given.

Also yesterday, the Air Defence-Air Force online newspaper was launched at http:// phongkhongkhongquan.vn.by the High Command of Air Defence and Air Force as an event to mark Vietnam's Revolutionary Press Day.

The newspaper is designed to update online readers about the service’s activities as well as Party guidelines, and State policies and laws on building a strong all-people defence.
