At the working session, Secretary of the Da Nang municipal Party Committee and Chairman of Da Nang People’s Council Nguyen Xuan Anh reviewed the city’s socio-economic development and defence and security in the locality during the first six months of 2016.

Da Nang has outlined the e-government as a platform for building its smart city. Over the last seven consecutive years from 2009-2015, Da Nang has led the country on index of IT application readiness and development.

Speaking at the meeting, Nhan highly appreciated results achieved in relation to the city’s socio-economic development, as well as ensuring security and defence over the past six months, which resulted from efforts of the city’s authorities and locals.

He also voiced support from the VFF to Da Nang to trial the building of a smart city, with the aim of improving the lives of its people.

He provided information on the plan for intelligent urban system development across the nation, stressing that it is necessary to divide the plan into two phases, of which Phase 1 (from 2016-2020) piloted in the three cities of Da Nang, Hue, and Ha Long, Phu Quoc island district, and several urban districts of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The VFF president suggested Da Nang establish a steering committee to direct the smart city development plan, as well as developing a large-scope smart planning forecast on how the city will develop over the next six months, in addition to over the next year, five years, ten years and 20 years, respectively.

Nhan also pointed out issues that need to be considered when building a smart city in Da Nang, including making use of the potential strengths to supplement the missing platform, selecting IT partners and taking advantage of its existing ICT infrastructure.

On the same day, Nhan also worked with Da Nang municipal People's Committee on administrative procedure handling at Da Nang Administrative Centre.
