The figure was released by the People’s Committee Office at a conference on July 6 to review the operation of the hotline, which was set up at the instruction of the municipal Party Committee.

According to the Office, most of the calls reported problems arising in daily life, including illegal business activities on streets, illegal housing construction, environmental pollution, and violations of public security and social order.

Head of the Office Vo Van Hoan underlined the effectiveness of the hotline as a bridge connecting citizens and the municipal authorities, but noted that concerned agencies and district and ward authorities have been slow in responding to citizens’ reports.

Among 4,980 calls and messages that were forwarded to departments and district and ward authorities, only 2,580 received a response, he said.

He urged relevant bodies to pay more attention to addressing citizens’ concerns.

The city is to issue regulations on receiving, processing and responding to citizens’ reports through the hotline soon, Hoan said.

Ho Chi Minh City is the biggest business and trade hub in southern Vietnam.
