Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement while chairing a working session in Hanoi on July 9 with the Presidium of the VGCL.
Speaking at the session, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc acknowledged efforts made by the VGCL in recent years, including designing labour and trade union policies, working as a an advisor to the government in terms of building mechanisms that protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers, and ensuring sustainable development.
Numerous activities supporting impoverished workers and policy beneficiaries were launched by the confederation, he noted.
Calling on the VGCL to step up its co-ordination with the Government in protecting workers’ legitimate rights and interests, the Government leader urged the confederation to play a more active role in studying workers’ living and working conditions as well as their legitimate aspirations, and report them to the government.
He also agreed with the VGCL’s proposal to pilot a project on building residential areas, supermarkets, pre-schools, cultural houses and legal assistance centres serving workers at 15 industrial and processing zones.
The PM said he has assigned the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to submit the draft Law on Minimum Wage so that the government can suggest adding the document to the 14th National Assembly’s law-making programme during its upcoming session.
