The campaign covers the city’s 24 districts as well as a number of localities in the south and central regions and in Laos, with a focus on disadvantaged areas.

Volunteers are participating in activities that aim to protect the environment, construct rural infrastructure, maintain traffic safety and support disadvantaged children. Targets set to be achieved include building and upgrading 40km of concrete roads, ten concrete bridges in rural areas as well as 10km of roads in urban alleys.

Pham Hong Son, Vice Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Chapter in HCM City, said the campaign is focusing more on the quality of its activities, thus volunteers will work in disadvantaged locations for longer periods of time.

At a ceremony marking the start of the campaign on July 10, Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam also reminded the young volunteers to pay attention to their own safety, particularly when working in risky conditions.
