Organised by the Asian Concrete Federation and the Vietnam Concrete Association (VCA), the ACF 2016 drew the participation of 400 experts from 250 domestic and international organisations.

In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Quang Hung, who is also President of the VCA, said the conference helped to promote experience-sharing in developing sustainable concrete for the construction sector.

According to Hung, concrete has become the most popular building material in the world. About 35 billion tonnes of concrete are produced globally each year, and this figure is forecast to keep increasing in the coming years.

Professor Han Manyop, ACF President, said the event offered a chance for major enterprises and corporations in the field to promote their products, technologies, services and solutions, as well as to set up links for scientific research and trade.

He also underlined the need to improve the sustainability of concrete in order to meet the needs of global socioeconomic development at present and in the future.

Within the framework of the conference, participants went on excursions to major infrastructure works and new urban areas in Hanoi.
