The opening of the spaces is among a series of activities hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in India to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-India diplomatic ties (1972-2017) and the 10th anniversary of their bilateral strategic partnership (2007-2017).
The spaces display over 600 book titles in English introducing the history, culture and tourist attractions of Vietnam as well as the country’s achievements during its ‘Doi Moi’(Renewal) and socio-economic development process.
Some of the books were collected by the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee in West Bengal; and others were donated by the Vietnamese Embassy in India and the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the space at Jadavpur University, Professor Suranjan Das –Vice Chancellor of the University – spoke highly of the traditional and longstanding friendship between India and Vietnam, stating that the opening of the corner was a practical move to encourage Indian students to study Vietnamese history and culture.
He expressed the hope that the two countries would step up exchanges and cooperation in research and training.
Meanwhile, Dr.Arun Kumar Chakraborty, Director General of the National Library of India, said that the inauguration of the corners will significantly contribute to boosting bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of culture, education, and people-to-people exchange.
Addressing the occasion, Vietnamese Minister Counsellor Tran Quang Tuyen said that the launching of the spaces aimed to enhance cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between the two people, thus fostering bilateral cultural links, which is one of the major pillars in the Vietnam – India strategic partnership.
He conveyed his thanks for the support provided by the National Library of India, the Jadavpur University and the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee in West Bengal for the opening of the book corners, expressing his belief that the bilateral ties will further develop in the coming time.
