Addressing the ceremony, Deputy PM Dam appreciated the positive outcomes that the university has achieved over the past 60 years of construction and development.

He emphasised that the HUI has become one of the most prestigious universities in technique and technology, training hundreds of engineers and technicians who have made significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the country, particularly to Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong River Delta region.

The Deputy PM said that the basic and comprehensive innovation of education, particularly higher education, would contribute to improving the quality of human resources for the country.

He expressed his pleasure at the positive results that the university has gained over the past year of voluntarily implementing self-control mechanisms, particularly in mobilising resources to serve for training, scientific research and international co-operation activities.

Deputy PM Dam urged more efforts to make the HUI become one of the leading high-quality universities in the country as well as more prestigious in the region and the world.

He asked relevant agencies to supplement and adjust the regulations in order to create favourable conditions for universities and colleges to promote their rights of self-control.

Currently, the HUI has 1,150 institutors, including 175 professors, associate professors and doctors; and trains 35,000 students pursuing bachelor and master degrees.

At the ceremony, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam presented the Independence Order (third class) to the HUI as well as the PM’s certificates of merit to seven departments and 11 individuals of the university.
