He praised the villagers for their efforts to improve the standard of living and stated that to eliminate poverty, they should support each other and share experience in farming and other businesses, as well as joining forces in cooperatives.

In My An 2, he urged local leaders to formulate an action plan calling on local residents to help each other escape poverty and suggested forming a scholarship fund named after President Ton Duc Thang, who hailed from the village, to encourage learning.

On this occasion, the VFF leader paid tribute to President Ton Duc Thang at his memorial in My Hoa Hung Commune and visited the Long Xuyen Bishop’s Residence.

The same day, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue on November 12 participated in a similar festival with residents of the Trung Hoa neighbourhood of Cua Lo Town in the central province of Nghe An.

Speaking to locals, the deputy PM underlined the fine values of the festival in bringing people together to work towards socioeconomic goals such as increasing income, reducing poverty and improving the standard of living.

He said he was pleased with the results achieved by those living in the Trung Hoa neighbourhood, which boasts a per capita income of VND29 million (US$1,300) and a poverty rate of 5%.

On the occasion, Deputy PM Hue donated VND40 million to the neighbourhood to help it build a football pitch.
