Vietnamese Teachers’ Day marked nationwide

NDO—Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, visited the Ministry of Education and Training on November 18 to congratulate officials and public servants in the education sector on the occasion of Vietnam Teachers’ Day, which falls on November 20.

Nhan sent congratulations to 1.3 million teachers and education managers across the country, emphasising that these days, in many parts of the country, local authorities, students and their parents are expressing their sincere sentiments and deep gratitude towards them.

Looking back on 30 years of doi moi (renovations) with the country's significant achievements in human resource development, VFF President Nhan said that behind this success was the quiet contribution of the education sector, so the more than 92 million Vietnamese people always respect and appreciate the contribution of teachers to the nation.

He affirmed that the cause of the fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training is in its early stages, so each teacher should learn and practice life-long self-study following President Ho Chi Minh’s example to overcome difficulties and contribute initiatives and creativity to the sector’s improvement.

* The same day, Nhan attended a ceremony held by the People's Security Academy to celebrate Vietnam Teachers' Day.

He expressed his pleasure at witnessing the remarkable achievements of the academy’s 70 years of construction and development, as well as praising the efforts and contributions of generations of teachers at the school to the education and training of the people's public security force.

He also urged the academy to implement good training, good management and good learning, while promoting innovation and democracy and listening to opinions from teachers and students to help learners develop.

At the same time, the academy should improve the quality of teachers on teaching, scientific research and international integration, he said.

* Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam attended the opening of the new school year for 2016-2017 and the inauguration of an experimental zone at the College of Technology 2 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The deputy PM congratulated teachers at the school on the occasion of Vietnam Teachers' Day, and praised the school’s efforts to improve quality of education to meet the manpower needs of the labour market.

* On the occasion of the holiday, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha sent his greetings and best wishes to teachers, officials and employees in the sector nationwide, especially those in disadvantaged and remote areas.

* Yesterday evening, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Trade Union of the Education Sector, in collaboration with Vietnam Television, organised an art exchange programme entitled Thay loi tri an (“Representing Gratitude”) to honour teachers nationwide and review the one-year operation of the campaign Cung em den truong (“Together with Children to School”).

During the show, the audience listened to the stories of teachers who educate students in the highlands.

On this occasion, the Minister of Education and Training awarded certificates of merit to 155 teachers who have made outstanding achievements in education and training.

* Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien visited and congratulated senior teachers on November 18 who have contributed significantly to the health sector.

She conveyed her deep gratitude to the teachers and wished them good health to continue contributing to the sector, for the protection and care of the people’s health.

To mark the occasion, the minister sent greetings to teachers, civil servants and employees at training facilities in the health sector.

* As many as 214 outstanding young teachers in Ho Chi Minh City were honoured at a ceremony held on November 18 by the city’s Youth Union in recognition of their contributions during 2016 to the city’s education sector.

* Celebrations were also held the same day at Hue and Da Nang Universities to celebrate the 34th anniversary of Vietnam Teachers’ Day.

At the events, the two universities announced their decision on the recognition of teachers qualified for the title of professor and associate professor in 2016.
