Various activities held to mark Vietnam Teachers' Day

A range of activities paying tribute to teachers on the occasion of Vietnam Teachers' Day, which falls on November 20, are being held across the nation, honouring teachers’ efforts and contributions to the education sector.

On November 19, Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dinh La Thang visited Pham Chanh Truc, former Deputy Secretary of the city’s Party Committee and former director of its Department of Education and Training.

Politburo member Thang expressed his sincere thanks for the great contributions of Truc to the development of education and training in Ho Chi Minh City.

The city leader wished that Truc would continue to contribute his initiatives to the education sector, as well as other areas for the city’s effective implementation of breakthrough development programmes, thus meeting the needs of international integration.

On the same day, Education and Training Minister Phung Xuan Nha visited and congratulated Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, who is a Politburo member, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and former Minister of Education and Training.

Minister Nha wished comrade Nhan good health and expressed his desire that the Politburo member would pay more attention to the sector in the near future.

Dr. Nhan also conveyed his greetings to all officers and teachers on the occasion of November 20, while suggesting the ministry consider the issue of autonomy for universities, deploying new educational models suitable for each locality and region, and handling the sector’s issues of social concern.

Earlier, on the evening of November 18, Minister Nha also visited former Vice State President and former Minister of Education Nguyen Thi Binh.

On November 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University launched the book "People's Teacher, Prof. Dr. and Doctor Nguyen Dinh Hoi – A life and career."

Via the book, readers can gain an understanding of Dr. Hoi’s life, career and his dedication to the health sector, particularly the educator’s efforts in developing the school-hospital model in Vietnam that has been warmly welcomed and applied by medical universities across the country.

The School of Law under Vietnam National University held a ceremony on November 19 to celebrate its 40th anniversary and receive the second class Labour Order.

Speaking at the ceremony, National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu affirmed that in the context of increased international integration, law training is an essential and practical need for society.

It is an opportunity but also poses a challenge to train a team of legal practitioners with political stability, professional skills and who are capable of approaching and handling political and legal issues set in the doi moi (renewal) process and international integration, Luu said.

He urged the school to strongly and synchronously innovate essential elements of training towards improving students’ knowledge and putting them in the centre of the training process.

Tran Phu High School for the Gifted in the northern port city of Hai Phong yesterday held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its establishment and receive the first class Labour Order.

On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training and relevant units honoured 33 winners of the 19th Vo Truong Toan Award.

Named after the famous educator in the 18th century, the award aims to honour outstanding teachers who have overcome difficulties to set a good example for their colleagues and students to follow.
