Youth Union anniversary celebrated nationwide

Various activities are being held across the country to commemorate the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU)’s 86th anniversary (1931-2017), which falls on March 26.

* A gathering was held on March 25 in Ben Cat Town, the southern province of Binh Duong for youth union officials of various generations in Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc provinces (formerly Song Be province).

The delegates offered incense to heroic martyrs, reviewed the operations of local youth union officials during the resistance, as well as exchanged and shared their experiences over the periods. On the occasion, the organising board presented 11 gifts worth VND2 million each to former disadvantaged youth union officials.

* The same day, the Youth Union of the Ministry of Public Security honoured its outstanding youth union members with the 2016 Youth Public Security Awards.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Politburo Member and Minister of Public Security affirmed that in the last 70 years of construction and development, the People's Public Security Force and its youth members have always acted as pacifists to protect social security and order.

Many typical examples of young police officers have appeared, highlighting the quality of the revolutionary police force in wholeheartedly serving the people and willing to fight for the security of the Fatherland, the peace and happiness of the people, Minister Lam said.

Highly praising the achievements of 20 outstanding youth members in the force over the last year, Politburo member Lam suggested Party committees and authorities at all levels in the Public Security force continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement directives from the Party and State in youth work, focusing on building a strong youth union in the force and creating favourable conditions for youngsters to complete their duties.

At the same time, he also urged the HCYU to continue paying attention to directing and creating favourable conditions for the youth union of the Police force to develop strongly, contributing positively to the youth movement of the whole country.

* In Hanoi, the municipal Youth Union, Hanoi Students’ Association and Up JSC held the Students' Startup Day 2017 with the participation of nearly 500 students, 20 start-ups succeeding in calling for investment capital from US$50,000 to millions of USD and 11 groups of students entering the finals of the first Students’ Startup Competition 2017.

At the event, firms committed to interviewing and directly recruiting up to 50 positions from trainee to general manager. Within the framework of the festival, a forum on students, start-up and employers was organised, attracting the participation of many speakers who are founders of innovative start-ups with high growth rates.

* On the same day, the Youth Union of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) organised a programme to respond to the Earth Hour campaign 2017 with the participation of nearly 300 officials and, youth union members under the group, aimed at promoting the role of EVN youth in calling on people to save electricity as well as promoting safe and effective use of electricity in the community.

After the opening ceremony, delegates flocked to the streets to call upon people to respond to the Earth Hour campaign. EVN's affiliated units switched off lights from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm yesterday.

* In the northern mountainous province of Son La, the Youth Festival of Ethnic Minority Youngsters in Son La Province was held on Saturday to celebrate the 86th anniversary of the HCYU with the participation of more than 1,000 youth union members.

Various activities are also to be held as part of the event, such as cultural and arts exchanges, sporting activities, folk games, career counselling and orientation for youth, and honouring typical outstanding youngsters.

On the occasion, the Son La Youth Union organised the Youth Festival with Books and launched the campaign "Building Reading Culture among Youth".
