The delegates are in Vietnam to attend a programme hosted by the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Vietnamese embassy in Thailand for overseas Vietnamese Buddhist dignitaries and laypeople from March 25-30.

Speaking at the reception, President Tran Dai Quang affirmed that the Vietnamese communities in foreign countries are an indispensable part of the country, as they serve as a bridge connecting their homeland and their host countries.

The Vietnamese Party and State always create all favourable conditions for them to stabilise their lives in the host country, the State leader noted.

A majority of the population of both Vietnam and Thailand practise Buddhism, the President said, underscoring that the similarities in culture, religion and belief between the two countries are the foundation for them to further strengthen their friendship and cooperation.

President Quang also spoke highly of the role of the Buddhist An Nam Tong sect in promoting community solidarity and connecting the Vietnamese community with the Thai authorities and people.

He also asked the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs to pay more attention to making policies supporting overseas Vietnamese and called on the Thai Government and Buddhist Sangha to continue facilitating the popularisation of Vietnamese culture in the country.
