The honourees included 100 Vietnamese people from 63 cities and provinces across the country, as well as 38 foreigners from nine foreign countries and international organisations. Many of them have donated blood, dozens or even hundreds of times so far.

In addition to donating blood, the delegates have also encouraged thousands of people to join them in giving blood donations.

Speaking at the event, Politburo member and Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC), Truong Thi Mai said that throughout its ten-year course, the national blood donation campaign has gained impressive results, as 8.5 million blood units has been collected, saving millions of people’s lives.

Mai, who is also Head of PCC Commission for Mass Mobilisation, hailed the campaign’s outcome as a vivid illustration of community strength, in which individuals support each other in building a compassionate and solidarity society.

She said she hoped that the exemplary role models in the campaign would promote their key role in encouraging their relatives, friends and colleges to donate their blood in support of people in need.

Minster of Health, Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, expressed her sincere thanks and admiration for the outstanding blood donors’ dedication.

The donors should be proud of what they have done, she said, emphasising that the drops of blood contributed by them have brought hope to, and saved the lives of, many people.
