On Thursday the Quang Tri provincial People's Committee and Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO) held a signing ceremony to hand over the LED systems to the Quang Tri fishermen.

The US$3.4 million project, funded by the Japanese organisation, uses modern COB LED technology, in the form of 1,800 LED boxes and 40 electricity meters.

These LEDs are installed on 40 offshore fishing vessels, with a capacity of 200 CV or more, in Vinh Linh, Gio Linh and Trieu Phong districts.

The vessels will also be checked by Japanese experts for the installation and effective use of the LEDs in order to improve the efficiency of fishing activities at sea.

During the implementation of the project, Quang Tri Department of Science and Technology has worked with experts from Stanley Electric Co., Ltd. and Eternal Technology and Energy JSC to ensure that the technical standards in the installation and operation processes meet the requirements of the reality in Vietnam, as well as the stringent technical requirements from the Japanese side on water and salinity-proofing and impact and vibration resistance.

Equipping their vessels with LED lights will help the Quang Tri fishermen to save 70% of their fuel cost, thus reducing fishing costs and increasing profits.

Deputy Chairman of Quang Tri provincial People's Committee Nguyen Quan Chinh said that the project reflects the results of friendly cooperation between Vietnam and Japan. It not only helps fishermen save energy and facilitate fishing activities in an environmentally friendly manner, but also changes their perception in accessing to and applying modern science and technology.

Chinh also expressed his belief that the project would be an effective model to be replicated across Vietnam in the coming time.

On the occasion, five collectives recorded positive achievements in implementing the project were awarded certificates of merit from the Chairman of Quang Tri provincial People's Committee.
