Tuyen made the remarks at a working session, on September 25, to review the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City in the first nine months of this year.

Tuyen noted that the building of the smart city will focus on four main pillars, including the building of a data centre, an operating centre, a service centre, and an information security centre.

The city leader said that the project will be piloted in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area, District 1, as well as District 12, adding that if other districts register for the pilot project, the city will pilot several models in these districts.

In addition, Tuyen asked for improved management of capital and human resources, particularly in the area of information technology, in order to support the establishment of a smart city.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee also announced that the city posted a GRDP growth rate of 8% in the first nine months of 2017, which is higher than the 7.76% rate of the same period last year.

However, Tuyen noted that it is difficult for the city to reach the target rate of 8.5% for the entirety of 2017.

Ho Chi Minh City has also attracted US$3.71 billion worth of foreign direct investment in the past nine months, up over 64% compared to the same period in 2016, the municipal People's Committee announced.
