The funding for the project, which is part of the province’s coastal road route, is sourced from the preferential loans offered by the Korea Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCF) and the counterpart capital provided by the Vietnamese Government.
Thinh Long Bridge measures over 2.3km long and 12m wide, with one end at Km202+400 of National Highway No. 21 (in Hai Chau commune, Hai Hau district) and the other end meeting the Provincial Road No. 490C at Km40+698.42 (Nghia Binh commune, Nghia Hung district).
The reinforced concrete bridge offers two lanes, each measuring 3.5m in width, for motor vehicles, and two other lanes, each measuring 2m wide, for rudimentary vehicles.
According to Chairman of the Nam Dinh provincial People’s Committee Pham Dinh Nghi, Thinh Long Bridge is significant as it will contribute to facilitating the socio-economic development in Nam Dinh and other provinces in the region.
The bridge is located in an area with many large projects currently under implementation, such as the Rang Dong Garment and Textile Industrial Zone, the Thinh Long shipyard and seaport, the Nam Dinh I Thermal Power Plant and the Thinh Long Resort.
Due for completion in over two years’ time, Thinh Long Bridge will help to reduce the distance from Hai Hau district’s Thinh Long town to Nam Dinh city by approximately 10km.
It will also enhance Nam Dinh’s connection ability with other provinces in the region, including Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa, along the coastal road route, thereby reducing costs for means of transport.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Cong asked the contractor and construction units to ensure safety at work, as well as the progress and quality of the facility. The Nam Dinh provincial People’s Committee and localities served by the project need to work with the investor and contractor to deal with any arising issues in a timely fashion, in order to finalise the project as soon as possible.
