At the meeting, the government leader said he was moved to welcome the former soldiers who made light of hardship and sacrifices to make significant contributions to the struggle for national independence and reunification.

Along the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea, more than 2,000 trips were made, transporting 80,000 people, 150,000 tonnes of weapons and ammunition and tens of thousands of tonnes of goods to the southern battlefields.

During those journeys, many soldiers died heroically to safeguard weapons, ammunition and goods, and keep the trail secret.

The prime minister stated that the nation and people are always proud of and bear in mind the contributions of the soldiers and the officers serving on the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail.

He also praised the veterans’ contributions to their local neighbourhoods after the war, especially the care for their struggling fellow combatants.

The prime minister took this occasion to affirm that the government always attends to providing compensation and benefits to veterans and express his expectations that the veterans would continue upholding the revolutionary spirit and make further contributions to the nation.
