Vietnam wins first ever Olympic gold medal in Science category

Vietnam has won its first gold medal in the Science category since it began participating in the annual International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) held for students under 13 years old.

The Vietnamese team of 12 students won 12 medals at the IMSO 14 held in Singapore on November 20-24 including the first ever gold medal in the Science category.

All 12 Vietnamese students won medals including three gold medals, eight silver medals and one bronze medal.

Regarding the Science category, the Vietnamese team won one gold medal which went to Pham Viet Hung and five silver medals which went to Cao Phuong An, Do Cong Vinh, Nguyen Nhat Minh, Tran Xuan Bach and Vu Minh Tue Anh.

Meanwhile, the mathematics team earned two gold medals which were presented to Do Quang Minh and Hoang Ngoc Bao Khue in addition to three silver medals which went to Nguyen Thanh Vinh, Tran Vu My Hanh and Trinh Anh Minh, and a bronze medal for Dang Ngoc Minh.

Particularly, Hoang Ngoc Bao Khue was awarded with the Best Exploration in the category of Mathmatics.

The annual IMSO is held alternatively by Ministries of Education of countries across the world for students under 13 years old. This year's IMSO saw the participation of many teams from 22 countries and territories across the world including China, Singapore, Thailand, Iran, Bulgaria, South Africa, among others.

Vietnam is scheduled to host the IMSO 16 in Hanoi in 2019.
