Activities held in celebration of Liberation and National Reunification Day

Various activities were held across the nation to mark the 43rd anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30), and the 132nd anniversary of International May Day (May 1).

In particular, Buu Long Tourist Area in Bien Hoa City attracted the largest number of tourists with about 50,000 visitors, followed by the VuonXoai eco-tourism Area, the GiangDien Waterfall Tourist Park, and the Suoi Mo Park, etc.

According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, during the holiday the number of visitors increased by roughly 30% over the same period last year.

A number of cultural and sporting activities were also held in the central city of Da Nang, including the “Sea Tourism Season” with kayak racing, the art of the arrangement of boats, anight tour with telescopes, a kite festival, and 9D - 12D film screenings.

According to the municipal Department of Tourism, nearly 350,000 tourists are expected to visit Da Nang on April 30 and May 1, showing an annual rise of 10.2%.

The number of holidaymakers is projected to surge because the holiday coincides with the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2018, which kicked off on April 29, under the theme “The Legends of Bridges”.

The mountainous northern town of Sa Pa in Lao Cai province received around 60,000 holiday-makers during the four-day holiday.

The annual Sa Pa Summer Tourism Festival 2018 kicked off with diverse and interesting activities including a photo exhibition, a flower festival, the Ham Rong mountain climbing competition, a cultural festival of the Mong Cat Cat village re-enacting awedding of Dao ethnic people, and the new harvest welcoming ceremony of the Xa Pho ethnic group, and others.

The 2018 Ho Chi Minh City Television Cycling Tournament concluded on Le Duan Street, Ho Chi Minh City, on April 30.

The tournament included 30 stages with a total length of more than 3,200km, from Lang Son to the southernmost province of Ca Mau.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam USA Society English Centres topped the team event, followed by Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang and Domesco Dong Thap.

In Hanoi, visitors flocked to the city’s popular attractions, such as the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Huong Son landscape complex (also known as the Huong Pagoda), Ngoc Son Temple in the heart of Hoan Kiem Lake, Van Mieu (the Temple of Literature),Quoc Tu Giam (the first university in Vietnam) and the Vietnam National Villages for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, which hosted a series of art performances and cultural activities to celebrate the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day and May Day.
