Fidel Park inaugurated in Quang Tri

The Fidel Park was inaugurated in the central province of Quang Tri on September 15 to mark the 45th anniversary of the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s visit to the liberated area in southern Vietnam in September 1973.

Prominent figures among the participants at the event included First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, Salvados Valdes Mesa and Politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC)’s Secretariat, Tran Quoc Vuong.

Speaking at the event, Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member and Secretary of the CPVCC, said that the inauguration of the park on the anniversary of Fidel Castro’s visit to Vietnam is a significant event, illustrating the sentiments of the Quang Tri and Vietnamese people towards the Cuban leader.

Mai, who is also Head of CPVCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation and the Chairwoman of the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association, stressed that the friendship between the two countries will last forever.

Following the inauguration, delegates planted trees in the park.

Covering a total area of 16 hectares in Dong Ha district, Fidel park was built with a total investment of more than VND137 billion.
