The new road, with a total length of 25km, will link Sapa town with Lao Cai city and will run parallel with national highway 4D.

The project consists of two components including upgrading the 29km national highway 4D and building the 25km new road linking Lao Cai city with Sapa.

The project will require a total cost of VND2.51 trillion (US$107.93 million) with the land clearance scheduled to be completed by 2020.

National highway 4D is currently the arterial route connecting Lao Cai city and Sapa town, but it often suffers from landslides in the rainy season, resulting in traffic accidents.

The project is expected to meet the increasing transportation demand to the tourist site and reduce the risk of accidents on highway 4D.

The work will also contribute to enhancing the efficiency of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway and promoting socio-economic development in the locality, while ensuring national defence and security in the Northwest region and Lao Cai province in particular.
