Laos holds two-day state mourning for President Tran Dai Quang

Laos will hold a two-day state mourning for Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang on September 26 and 27, the Lao Prime Minister's Office announced on September 24.

During the two-day national mourning, flags will be flown at half-mast at public offices of the Lao Party and State, and at social organisations from central to local levels from 6am to 6pm. During this time, Laos will also stop recreational and entertainment activities throughout the country.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Vientiane and Consulates General of Vietnam in Laos will hold memorial ceremonies for the late President from September 26 to 27.

Previously, the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the Lao National Assembly, the Government, and the Lao Front for National Construction sent messages of condolence to Vietnamese leaders.

Vietnamese and Lao Buddhist followers also joined a requiem for President Tran Dai Quang in Vientiane on September 23. At national activities, delegates also observed a minute's silence to remember the late Vietnamese President.
