National hero Nguyen Trai commemorated in Hai Duong province

A ceremony was held in the northern province of Hai Duong on September 25 to commemorate Nguyen Trai, a 15th century national hero who played a key role in the resistance war led by Le Loi against the Chinese Ming dynasty to regain Vietnam’s independence.

The commemorative event took place at a temple dedicated to him in Con Son and was attended by representatives of the provincial authorities, local residents and pilgrims.

During the Ming dynasty occupation of Vietnam, Nguyen Trai (1380 - 1442) joined the Lam Son Uprising and helped Le Loi realise the goal of liberating Vietnam from the Ming rule.

He was noted for the Binh Ngo Dai Cao (The Great Proclamation on the Pacification of the Wu), which is considered by historians as Vietnam’s second declaration of independence.

Following a eulogy to Nguyen Trai, the provincial leaders and local residents offered incense to the national hero and prayed for peace and prosperity.
