Government facilitates relocation of residents living inside Hue Imperial City

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that the Government will create favourable conditions for Thua Thien - Hue province to relocate 4,201 local households living inside Hue Imperial City in a bid to preserve the relic site.

The Government leader made the statement at a working session with key leaders of Thua Thien - Hue province and other related ministries and agencies on October 24 in Hanoi regarding the Project on the relocation of residents living inside the Hue imperial city relic site.

Approximately 4,201 households are currently living inside the Hue relic site in poor conditions while making it difficult to preserve the relic.

The relocation project is scheduled to relocate 2,938 households with nearly 11,000 residents in the 2019-2021 period which requires a total expense of VND1.88 trillion. The remainder will be resettled in the second phase of the project in the 2022-2025 period which will need a total cost of VND855 billion.

The PM valued efforts by leaders of Thua Thien - Hue province in the preservation of the relic site over the past years.

He noted that the protection of the Hue relict site, a world cultural heritage and a special national heritage, is an important task of relevant ministries, sectors and Thua Thien - Hue province.

The Government leaded said that the province should set aside land with favourable location for residents to settle their lives and continue their current occupation.

The fund for the projects will be mobilised from many sources including the State budget and the Government will create favourable policy framework for the province to implement the project, PM Phuc added.
