Nhan Dan Newspaper to co-host 50th anniversary of Truong Bon Victory

The 50th anniversary of the Truong Bon Victory (October 31, 1968-2018) will be co-hosted by Nhan Dan Newspaper and the central province of Nghe An at the historic site in Do Luong district, Nghe An province, on November 1.

The information was announced at a press brief held at the Nhan Dan Newspaper headquarters in Hanoi on October 26. This is the third year that Nhan Dan has coordinated with Nghe An to organise the annual event.

Accordingly, this year’s event will feature various new programmes, including a special art show entitled "Truong Bong - Legendary Land", which will start at 8pm on November 1 at the Truong Bon Relic Site.

The 30-minute ceremony and one-hour special art show, with the participation of artists from the Vietnam Contemporary Art Theatre, the Nghe An Ethnic and Music Troupe and other famous artists, will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television Channel 1 (VTV1), Nhan Dan Television, Nghe An Radio and Television, and other local TV stations.

Speaking at the press conference, Chairman of Nghe An People's Committee, Thai Thanh Quy, said that this year's programme features multiple new activities, including the launch of a song writing contest on Truong Bon from October 9, 2018 to July 30, 2019. The contest winners will be announced at an award ceremony held on the 51st anniversary of the Truong Bon Victory.

A series of events will be held during the occasion, including the 50th commemoration for 13 young volunteers who sacrificed their lives during their mission at the key transport hub in the anti-US war.

The organisers will visit and present gifts to war witnesses and members of the sacrificed young volunteers’ families. They will organise a camp introducing products and models by local Youth Union members who have gained positive achievements in local socio-economic development. A tree-planting "Youth Garden" project and a workshop on the preservation and promotion of the historic Truong Bong site’s values will be held to pay tribute to the fallen heroes and those who have contributed to the revolution, while educating younger generations on the revolutionary traditions and responsibility towards the country.

The great significance of the Truong Bon Victory lays in the dedication and sacrifice of the army, the people, and especially the bravery of the 13 female young volunteers who laid down their lives for the nation’s victory in the war against the US invaders. During the war in Truong Bon, a key transport hub from the north to the south, over 1,200 officers, soldiers, volunteers, transport workers and militia died ensuring the transportation of aid to the southern front, contributing to the south’s liberation and national unification.

According to Que Dinh Nguyen, Deputy Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, the Party newspaper will present 25 savings books worth VND20 million each to relatives of the 13 female heroes, as well as war witnesses and representatives from the families of the former young volunteers who fought on the battlefield in Truong Bon.

Nhan Dan will present gifts to the Management Board of the Truong Bon Historical Site and the Nghe An Study Encouragement Fund, while calling for donations and assistance to policy beneficiaries and relatives of the wounded and martyrs living in difficult circumstances in Nghe An.
