In his opening speech, VFU Chairman, Thao Xuan Sung, said that the association is entering a new era of development in the context of the country’s industrialisation, modernisation and international integration.

He stressed that the fourth industrial revolution and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership have brought about both opportunities and challenges for the agricultural sector, farmers and rural areas, requiring the VFU to renovate its operations.

Therefore, the VFU will continue providing training for farmers, encouraging its members to follow Party and State’s guidelines and policies, and effectively implement programmes and projects on developing rural areas.

The VFU Chairman reaffirmed that farmers’ associations at all levels have asserted their role in developing the agricultural sector, building rural areas, enhancing Party building, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of farmers.

During the two-day congress, participants will discuss and give comments on several important documents, including the political report of the sixth VFU central committee, draft projects on the personnel of the VFU’s executive committee and standing committee, and the VFU’s draft regulations (amended).
