Storm Pabuk kills one, injures six

Storm Pabuk, the first to hit the East Sea this year, killed one person, left one missing and injured six others in southern localities by 10am on January 5, according to the Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

The dead was Nguyen Van Phong, 46, a fisherman working on fishing vessel BL-93054TS of Bac Lieu province, while the missing is from Ho Chi Minh City and the injured live in Bac Lieu province.

The storm damaged nearly 240 houses, 81 vessels and canoes, over 14,000 ha of rice and 162 ha of vegetables. Total losses are estimated at over VND26 billion (US$1.12 million).

The office asked affected localities to continue collecting data on losses caused by storm Pabuk and take urgent measures to overcome consequences.

The Vietnam Television, Radio the Voice of Vietnam and mass media in localities must continue to give final information on the storm.

The same day, a delegation from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee led by President Tran Thanh Man visited and presented gifts to victims of storm Pabuk in Bac Lieu province.
