Gift presented to bring a warm Tet to poor and disadvantaged people

Assorted activities are being held across the country to bring a warm and happy Tet (lunar New Year) to poor and disadvantage people ahead of the traditional festival.

On January 10, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam visited and presented 50 Tet gifts, worth VND1.3 million each, to poor workers in Van Giang district, Hung Yen province.

Minister Lam applauded the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and Hung Yen provincial authorities for caring for the life of trade union members and workers in the localities, particularly those living in difficult circumstances.

The same day, Da Nang city Youth Union presented 100 gifts, worth VND50 million in total, to policy beneficiary families and poor households in Hai Chau district in order to help them celebrate a joyful and happy Tet.

A total of 240 bicycles were also handed over to 240 disadvantaged children in Long An province yesterday evening to encourage their determination to overcome difficulties and facilitate their active transport to schools.

The Ha Nam provincial Fatherland Front Committee hosted a gala night yesterday to raise funds for poor people as well as Agent Orange/Dioxin victims in the province. Benefactors, agencies and businesses inside and outside the province donated more than VND40 billion at the event .

As the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2019 nears, businesses and firms have also actively joined in the charitable donation of gifts to impoverished people.

The Thien Tam fund of VinGroup in collaboration with Thai Binh provincial Red Cross Society delivered 260 gifts, worth VND500,000 each, to needy people in Tien Hai district.

Meanwhile, in Yen Bai province, the provincial Association of War Veterans worked in coordination with the provincial Youth Union and local social organisations to gift 40 presents to former voluntary soldiers who are living in difficulties in the locality.

Bank for Investment and Development of Vietmam (BIDV) also announced yesterday that it will donate 40,000 gifts, totalling VND20 billion, to the poor during Tet festival. This is the 11th year the bank has implemented the ‘Tet Gift for the Poor' programme.
