The event, themed “Cities of the Future and Heritage Preservation”, was part of activities to celebrate the third Italian Design Day worldwide.
Speaking at the seminar, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonino Alessandro said that, like many other Asian cities, Hanoi is currently facing challenges in combining urban development with the preservation of cultural identities.
According to Michele De Lucchi, Italian Design Ambassador in Vietnam 2019, a smart city that wants to maintain and conserve culture needs to combine with architecture. For a city with many ancient museums and long-standing cultures, it is necessary to consider the construction of “one place – many functions” architecture.
For example, a museum can serve as a tourist attraction in combination with opening galleries, workshops or café shops to bring open spaces to help people directly connected with each other in the digital era, Lucchi stated.
With Italy being an experienced country in building smart cities, the Italian Embassy said it would like to create opportunities for Italian and Vietnamese experts to discuss contemporary issues and introduce practical solutions.
A symposium between companies and investors will be held today, March 21, to discuss the topic of “economic benefits” from the preservation and reuse of historical relics.
