Grand ceremony marks 88th anniversary of Youth Union foundation

A grand ceremony was held in the central province of Ha Tinh on the evening of March 23 to mark the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s (HCMCYU) 88th anniversary (March 26, 1931-2019) and present the 2019 Ly Tu Trong Award.

Speaking at the celebration, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, Truong Thi Mai, emphasised that, during the last 88 years under the lead of the Communist Party of Vietnam and beloved Uncle Ho, the Youth Union has always proved its capacity and its loyalty to the Party, the nation and the revolution, while being ready to receive and fulfill every task assigned by the Party and State.

Mai urged the younger generation to make more efforts in contributing to improving labour productivity and the value of Vietnamese products, and bringing the spirit of innovation and start-ups into national development, in order to meet the trust of the Party and people.

She also asked the Youth Union to improve revolutionary ideal education and promote the national revolutionary tradition among Vietnamese youths, while improving the quality of the union’s movements associated with the national socio-economic development objectives.

At the event, the HCMCYU Central Committee presented the 2019 Ly Tu Trong Award – named after the first member of the Union – to 72 union officials with outstanding achievements in youth movements.

* Also on the occasion, various activities are being held nationwide to celebrate the HCMCYU’s 88th founding anniversary. On March 23, Cao Bang provincial Youth Union held a meeting to celebrate the anniversary and receive the first-class Labour Order to the local union for its outstanding achievements during 2013-2017.

* The Quang Tri provincial Youth Union has organised a meeting with local youth union officials and present the "Typical Youngsters of Quang Tri" Award to 30 outstanding union members.

* In the Dak Buk So border commune, Tuy Duc district, Dak Nong province, the Tuy Duc Youth Union held a Youth Day and a March Programme in Border Areas, offering 13 gifts to policy families and 20 gifts to disadvantaged students of Dak Buk So commune, with a total value of VND40 million.

* The Ha Nam provincial Youth Union has coordinated with the Military Youth Committee and other units to organise a groundbreaking ceremony for the "VND100 House" programme, building charity houses for local policy families in Thanh Luu commune, Thanh Liem district.

* On March 23, a children’s festival took place in Da Nang with various activities, including folk game stalls, camping, singing, dancing and talent shows. A forum on protecting children from the risk of harm on social networks was also organised to help children understand and promote defensibility when using social networks. On the occasion, the city’s Council of Children and an Advisory Board with 27 members were officially launched.
