Outstanding models on youth movement honoured with Ho Hao Hon Award

A ceremony was held by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union on March 24 to celebrate the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931-2019) and to announce the winners of the 17th Ho Hao Hon Award 2019.

At the event, delegates reviewed the tradition and the works that the youth in the city has carried out, contributing to the common development of the southern economic hub.

On the occasion, the city’s Youth Union announced winners of the 2019 Ho Hao Hon Award, which is named after martyr Ho Hao Hon, Hero of the People's Armed Forces, and the first Secretary of the Saigon - Gia Dinh (now HCM City) Youth Union.

From 60 nominations, the organisers decided to grant the award to eight outstanding models with effective contributions to the city’s youth movement.

Over the past 17 years, the annual award has been given to 101 collectives and 44 individuals, with many of their models, programmes and works having been replicated among the youth movements throughout the country.

On the same day, Youth Unions in the city’s districts simultaneously launched “Day for doing good deeds”.

* On the occasion, various meaningful activities were held nationwide to mark the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

In Ha Tinh province, a delegation from the Youth Union Central Committee visited and gave 50 gifts, worth VND1 million each, to policy families in Viet Xuyen commune in Thach Ha district. In addition, the union will support Viet Xuyen commune to build a 2 km power line worth VND50 million and start construction of a water drainage canal worth VND138 million.

In the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang, the provincial Youth Union cooperated with the provincial Red Cross Society to organise a blood donation campaign, which received 257 units of blood from donors.

In Hanoi, the Youth Union Central Committee and IIG Vietnam kick-started the national qualification round of the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship - Viettel 2019 on Sunday. Over 1,000 candidates from 105 teams nationwide will compete for the final round scheduled for April 7. The three national winners will move on to the World Championship in the US from July 29 to 31 this year.

Also in Hanoi, the Tay Ho district’s Youth Union and local authorities jointly held a festival on March 23 and 24, honouring the value of books and reading culture. The festival featured 21 book displaying booths by local high schools and Youth Union units in the district.

In Vientiane, Laos, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Executive Committee held a meeting at the National University of Laos, on the evening of March 23, to celebrate the Youth Union’s founding anniversary and present awards to the winners of an annual men's friendship football tournament.
