At a press brief in Hanoi yesterday, the ministry informed that the Vietnam Health Programme and a ceremony to honour young physicians with outstanding contribution to public health will be organised for the eighth time, as part of the activities to mark World Health Day.

The launch for the three mentioned-above events will be held from 7:30 am to 12 pm at the monument area dedicated to King Ly Thai To and the walking streets around Hoan Kiem lake in Hanoi on April 7.

In Vietnam, the 2019 World Health Day is organised to focus on primary health care activities, mobilising the active participation of every citizen and calling for more social resources to be synchronously deployed on activities to improve the health of Vietnamese people.

On the occasion, the MoH calls on each citizen to join hands in carrying out practical actions for improving their own health, including walking 10,000 steps every day, promoting a low-sodium and low-sugar diet, eating more fruit and vegetables, not smoking, and limiting drinking of alcohol, as well as regularly carrying out health checks-up and donating blood to save those in need.

Also at the launch, at the monument of King Ly Thai To, various hospitals will organise medical examinations for participants to detect non-communicable diseases and screening for breast and cervical cancer using the most modern equipment.

The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion will also hold a blood donation drive to help ensure timely supply of blood and safe blood products for emergency and treatment.

Regarding the honouring of Vietnamese young physicians, the annual activities have been held since 2008. In 2019, the organisers selected 10 outstanding physicians, with dedication in voluntary activities for public health and the cause of protecting, caring and improving people's health, to be honoured at the event.

After the launching ceremony, there will be a parade in response to the World Health Day and Vietnam Health Programme under the theme "Walking 10,000 Steps". Mobile network operator Vietnamobile – the sponsor of the walk – will provide shirts and caps and support VND50,000 for each participant, to contribute to the Fund for Social Security activities, aiming to implement support activities to present gifts and free meals to patients with difficult circumstances.
