Special art programme marks National Reunification Day

An art programme entitled “Aspiration for Unification” was held at the historical relic site of Hien Luong Bridge, in Quang Tri province on the evening of April 29, by Nhan Dan newspaper, Vietnamese News Agency and the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province.

The special event aimed to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the 44th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification and the 47th anniversary of the Liberation of Quang Tri province.

The event saw the presence of Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) and Head of the CPVCC’s Commission for Internal Affairs Phan Dinh Trac, Nhan Dan Editor-in-Chief and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association ThuanHuu, and General Director of Vietnam News Agency Nguyen Duc Loi, among others.

Addressing the event, Nhan Dan Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Head of the PCC’s Communication and Education Commission Thuan Huu said that the Geneva Agreement defined the Ben Hai River on the 17th Parallel to be the temporary military line 65 years ago and Quang Tri was an extremely fierce battlefield.

The Quang Tri people had to endure many sacrifices and hardships. 47 years after the Liberation Day, people in Quang Tri have promoted their resilient tradition to build a more prosperous province with remarkable achievements in economics, society, and security and defence, Thuan Hue noted.

He said that the programme is an opportunity to recall the glorious past of the nation as well as expressing our deep gratitude to the great sacrifices of our forefather’s generations.

The art programme featured song and dance performances to honour the fighting spirit of the Vietnamese army and people and the aspiration for national unification.

At the event, the Electricity of Vietnam presented VND500 million (US$21,500) to policy beneficiary families in Quang Tri and the Vietnamese News Agency presented VND1.8 billion (US$77,400) to the province to build three class rooms at Trieu Tai Kindergarten in Trieu Tai commune, Trieu Phong district.
