Vinh Long was established as a third-tier city when the town of Vinh Long was upgraded in 2009.

The ceremony was attended by Head of the Party Central Commission for Communication and Education Vo Van Thuong and Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

Over the past ten years, the city has seen a significant shift in its economic structure, with services, trade and manufacturing playing a greater role, while its poverty rate has also dropped to less than 1%.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tran Van Ron, the provincial Party chief, praised Vinh Long city for overcoming difficulties and tapping into its strengths to build a greener and more beautiful city.

He urged the city to continue to make efforts in realising all socio-economic targets.

On the occasion, the city of Vinh Long was awarded with a Labour Order, third class, for its achievements in national construction and defence.
