According to the Coordination Office of the NTP on New Rural Area Building, in 2018, the NPTs achieved outstanding results in all aspects, with several targets reaching and even exceeding the set goals in terms of both quantity and quality.

By the end of 2018, the country had 43.02% of communes and 61 district-level units reaching the new rural area building standards, creating a firm premise to achieve the target of 50% of communes meeting the standards in 2019, thus realising the National Assembly’s set target one year in advance.

Total resources mobilised to implement the NTP on New Rural Area Building in 2018 increased by more than 50% compared to 2017. Of which, the local budget directly provided financial support worth VND43.8 trillion (US$1.87 billion), equal to half of the 2011-2015 period.

The poverty rate of the whole country in 2018 decreased by 1.35% compared to 2017 to 5.38%. It was the third year in a row in which the poverty reduction target has been completed and exceeded the set target assigned by the National Assembly.

The emulation movement "Joining hands for the poor - Leaving no one left behind" continues to receive a warm response and support from individuals, organisations and businesses, with the Fund for the Poor receiving over VND863 billion.

For the first time, the multi-dimensional poverty report in Vietnam was developed and published. The report provides an overview of the multidimensional poverty reduction trends in Vietnam and gives recommendations during the implementation of the NTP for Sustainable Poverty Reduction and poverty reduction policies to ensure a better standard of living for everyone and ensure no one is left behind.

A ceremony to officially announce the top 10 outstanding events of the NTPs in 2018 will be held at the Hanoi Opera House and broadcast live on Vietnam Television Channel 1 (VTV1), at 2:30 pm on May 12.
