Nhan Dan Newspaper wins top prize at press contest on new rural area construction in 2018

Nhan Dan Newspaper won four prizes, including one top A prize, at the 2018 press contest on new rural area construction which was announced at an award ceremony on May 12.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development yesterday afternoon coordinated with the Vietnam Journalists’ Association and Vietnam Television to organise the awarding ceremony, as well as to launch a press competition on sustainable agriculture and rural development for ASEAN journalists and announce 10 outstanding events of the 2018 national target programmes.

2018 is the second year that the journalism contest on new rural area construction has been held. The organisers received 450 entries from more than 150 authors and journalists from local newspapers as well as radio and TV stations.

They decided to award prizes for 39 works (in printed, TV, radio and online versions), including four A, seven B, 11 C and 17 consolation prizes.

Reporters from Nhan Dan Newspaper won one A, two B and a consolation prize, in which the A prize belongs to authors Duong Hong Lam and Trinh Binh with their printed article on "Seeking the output for agricultural products."

At the ceremony, Thuan Huu, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, launched a press contest on sustainable agricultural and rural development for ASEAN journalists, contributing to reflect and widely popularise achievements of the agricultural sector and sustainable rural development of ASEAN countries, including Vietnam.

Also at the event, the organisers announced 10 outstanding events of Vietnam’s national target programmes in 2018, in which the country saw 43% of communes and 61 district-level units meet new rural standards last year. Total mobilised resources to implement the national target programmes in 2018 increased by more than 50% compared to 2017, and the poverty rate decreased to 5.38%.
