Myriad of activities to entertain children ahead of International Children's Day

The Voice of Vietnam held a press conference on May 28 to announce its annual children’s singing contest under the theme ‘I Love My Country’ as an event to celebrate International Children's Day (June 1).

The final round of the contest will feature 40 performances by children and children’s clubs nationwide, and the the winning entries will be honoured at an awards ceremony scheduled for May 30.

The event aims to provide an entertainment venue for children and to seek out more young singing talents across the country.

A host of activities designed for children and young people will be organised throughout June at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, in the Dong Mo tourism area of Son Tay town, Hanoi.

Children at the event will be invited to play folk games, join reading spaces, try their hands at making traditional toys and learn how to recycle plastic bottles into useful items.

During the celebrations for International Children's Day, a festival will also be observed at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts (VECCA) in Hanoi this month, featuring colourful art performances, an exhibition of winning entries from a children’s painting contest, and many other interesting activities.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi will offer children an opportunity to enjoy exciting water puppetry shows, join a painting contest on the theme of environmental protection, and play folk games, such as tug of war, bag jumping, and stilt walking.

The Action Month for Children 2019 was launched at a ceremony held in A Luoi district, Thua Thien – Hue province, on May 28, calling for joint efforts to help poor children and those from ethnic minority groups.

At the ceremony, the provincial Department of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs and the A Luoi district People’s Committee awarded 40 scholarships, worth VND500,000 each, to poor students with excellent academic results in the district.

On the occasion, fifteen bicycles were also presented to disadvantaged students by the AIA Vietnam Life Insurance Ltd. Co.

Meetings responding to the Action Month for Children 2019 were also held in the northern provinces of Quang Ninh and Lang Son yesterday, during which the organising board granted gifts and scholarships to ethnic children and students living in difficult circumstances in the localities.
