Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh joined leaders from the Ministry of Education and Training and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) as well as Bac Kan authorities and over 2,000 local Youth Union members at the launch.
Hosted by the HCMCYU, the campaign takes place from June through August and includes five sub-volunteer campaigns, which are being implemented in 93 disadvantaged districts, six islands, 431 border communes and several locales in the neighbouring countries of Laos and Cambodia.
The campaigns target to repair and renew 4,300 km of rural roads, transfer scientific and technical progress to 100,000 Youth Union members, plant at least 2.5 million trees, grant free medical examinations and medicine to 500,000 people, as well as to build 150 new gratitude houses, provide training on start-up for 100,000 youths, and help 500,000 disadvantaged children, among other volunteer activities during the summer.
Speaking at the launch, Politburo member and Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh urged the HCMCYU to effectively organise the relevant programmes and activities under the summer campaigns, while developing new and more effective movements and promptly discovering good models to replicate, especially in socio-economic development.
At the launching ceremony, the HCMCYU Central Committee presented 20 gifts to policy families and 20 bicycles to disadvantaged students. A number of youth projects that granted total value of nearly VND3 billion to localities across the nation were also announced at the event.
Participants also joined responsive activities following the campaign launch, including installing 50 garbage bins and cleaning the environment along the section of Cau River running through Bac Kan city, presenting 1,000 helmets and joining a parade for traffic safety.
Implemented from June to August every year, the Summer Youth Volunteer campaign has become the "brand" of the Youth Union, promoting the volunteering spirit of young people in joining activities for socio-economic development and national defence.
* The same day, Politburo member and Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh held a meeting with leaders of Bac Kan province, in which he requested the province to continue effectively implementing programmes and resolutions set by the Government, focusing on developing forestry associated with processing industry and high-tech agriculture.
Earlier, Binh and his entourage visited Bach Thong district to offer incense at Na Tu historical site in Cam Giang commune, as well as giving gifts to local people and attending the ground-breaking ceremony for the cultural house of Tong Mu village in Duong Phong commune.
* Also on June 2, the Da Nang municipal Youth Union launched the summer volunteer campaign 2019, which will be run until August 31 with practical activities taking place in Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen and two provinces in Laos.
The activities target to renew 1,100m of rural roads in Hoa Vang district, offer free medical examinations and medicine for 5,000 people, repair 20 houses and build five clean water infrastructures, as well as to establish 60 volunteer youth teams specialising in consulting knowledge and skills on prevention of injury, abuse and drowning in children, in addition to organising foreign language classes for local children.
Also at the launch, the "Da Nang Youth say no to plastic waste" festival also took place with meaningful activities to promote public awareness on sorting domestic waste at source and protecting the environment from plastic waste pollution.
