Nhan Dan wins two top prizes at external information service awards

Nhan Dan Newspaper has won two first prizes at the 2018 External Information Service Awards for a series of articles for Vietnamese agricultural produce exports and another article on Vietnam’s peacekeeping forces.

The award-winning works were published on the Thoi Nay edition and the Chinese-language website respectively.

The newspaper was also awarded two second place prizes for a long-form article on the US-China trade war and a collection of photos capturing the moment Vietnam won the Southeast Asian football tournament.

Nhan Dan’s TV channel earned a third prize for its foreign service programme and another third prize for Nhan Dan was award for a photo series on Belgian culture on display in Hanoi.

According to the organisers, the 2018 awards attracted approximately 1,000 entries in 13 languages belonging to eight categories.

The authors came from more than 130 central and local news agencies, 12 publishing houses as well as foreign journalists and Vietnamese expats abroad submitting their own works.

Among the entries, the organisers selected 90 of the best works to award 8 first place prizes, 17 second place prizes, 25 third place prizes and 40 consolation prices.

Speaking at the awards ceremony on June 7, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated the winners while emphasising that the external information service helps to enhance the image of Vietnamese country, culture and people in the eyes of international friends.

He stated that Vietnam is not only a peaceful, dynamic and fast-growing country but also a safe, friendly and attractive destination to foreign investment, trade and tourism.

The government leader urged media agencies to create innovative works that focus on the country’s major matters and use the appropriate means to enhance the effectiveness of the external information service.
