Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Binh, who is also Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, stated that since its first broadcast 10 years ago, VOV traffic has shown the role and influence of the number one specialised communication channel on transport.
In the last decade, the channel has spread to the whole society. In particular, in big cities, it has proved to be a reliable companion of traffic participants and radio listeners, providing adequate and timely information on traffic towards developing traffic safety culture.
Highly praising VOV for raising the quality and expanding the coverage of the channel’s programmes, Deputy PM Binh urged the radio station and its channel to further promote the assigned mission and develop more attractive radio programmes, while strengthening coordination with related authorities and other media agencies, promoting interaction with listeners and improving the staff’s capacity, thus striving to be a reliable and useful friend of traffic participants.
The VOV traffic information channel officially started broadcasting on FM 91 MHz ten years ago. A pilot run kicked off on May 18, 2009. On June 21, 2009, the channel officially aired in Hanoi and nearby locales. After only six months, VOV traffic continued to be launched in Ho Chi Minh City and has been warmly welcomed by listeners. Seven years later, a new version of VOV Traffic was broadcast in the Mekong Delta, named Mekong FM 90 MHz. In August 2018, VOV Traffic has submitted a plan to develop the Coastal Radio channel, which is expected to be on air this year.
With an airtime of 20 hours per day, of which over 30% (seven hours) are for live broadcast of traffic information during peak hours, the channel covers a diverse range of features.
