Vietnam-USA Joint Mathematical Meeting opens

Vietnam-USA Joint Mathematical Meeting 2019 kicked off at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE), Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province, on June 10, featuring the participation of 300 mathematicians.

Co-organised by the Meet Vietnam Association and the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), the four-day conference is chaired by Prof Ngo Bao Chau, who represents VIASM and the University of Chicago, and Prof Brian D. Boe from the University of Georgia.

During the event, the mathematicians and professors from Microsoft Research, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Southern California (the US), Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Toulouse Mathematics Institute (France) will present and discuss the some contents, such as Algebraic topology, Mathematics in Industry and Applied Mathematics, Algebraic Geometry and related issues.

The event aims to introduce research outcomes and new approaches in different areas of math, adding that it is a great opportunity for boosting cooperation between Vietnamese and US mathematics communities.

The meeting includes plenary and special sessions. Young researchers will also join the discussion with 30 reports.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ho Quoc Dung, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, said that, in addition to promoting cooperation and mathematical development of Vietnam and the US, the conference also contributed to strengthening the friendship of the two countries.

In addition, within the framework of the event, a forum on Mathematics in Industry is taking place on June 11. The forum will be an opportunity for students, mathematicians, educators and policy makers to approach this new field, thereby recognizing the importance of Mathematics in the development of technology and human resources.
