The information was announced at a press brief held by the Embassy of India in Hanoi on June 17 to inform about the plan for celebrating the 5th IDY in Vietnam.

According to Rajesh Uike, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indian embassy in Vietnam, this is the biggest yoga event in the country, held jointly by the Indian Embassy, India’s consulate and friendship associations, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the local authorities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and ten other locales across Vietnam, with support from the insurance agency Bao Viet Life.

In Hanoi, a mass yoga performance is scheduled for Saturday at the Quan Ngua Sports Complex, No. 30 Van Cao street, Ba Dinh district. The one-hour programme will include the performance of Yoga Protocol by more than 800 yoga lovers. Registration can be made through http://iyogadayvietnam.org and the Indian embassy’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/IndiaInVietnam or https://www.facebook.com/IndianCultureInVietnam.

In addition, the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City will celebrate the event separately on June 29. Other yoga events in response to the 5th IDY in Vietnam will also be held in ten other provinces across the nation.

According to Rajesh Uike, yoga is regularly practiced in Vietnam in recent years. The dissemination of yoga to the local community has contributed to the Vietnamese health improvement, while also helping connect people of the two nations and foster the Vietnam - India friendship, he noted.

With a 5,000-year-old history, yoga has been recognised for its universal appeal. On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga, following the proposal of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In Vietnam, after the four previous events, the IDY has become a festival for yoga lovers as well as providing an opportunity for Vietnamese to learn more about the discipline.
