Activities observe 94th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day

The Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held a get-together on June 19 to mark 94th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

In his remarks, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan spoke highly of the journalists’ contributions to the development of Ho Chi Minh City and the nation as a whole, stressing that with formidable challenges lying ahead, the journalists should enhance their dedication for the country’s stability and development.

He expressed his hope that media agencies nationwide will continue upholding the glorious tradition of the Vietnam’s revolutionary press and be responsible for the city’s growth.

A similar event was also held yesterday at the headquarters of the Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper in the presence of Thuan Huu, Party Central Committee (PCC) member, Editor-in-chief of the newspaper and Deputy Head of the PCC Commission for Communication and Education.

Reviewing the 94-year tradition of the Vietnamese revolutionary press, Thuan Huu, who is also Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA), hailed the press for always working side by side with the country’s cause of liberation, national construction and defence, serving as a vanguard force in the ideological and cultural front.

At the meeting, outstanding individuals and collectives of the newspaper were presented with Labour Orders and VJA’s certificates of merit in recognition of the press’ developments.

On the morning of June 19, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee launched the 14th Journalism Award for the Cause of Great National Unity.

Under the award rules, entries must be timely and accurate in popularising on the Party and State’s policies and the VFF programmes of action in building and promoting the strength of the great national unity bloc.

They should also focus on propagating campaigns and movements launched by the VFF, such as “Vietnamese give priority to using Vietnamese goods” as well as the glorious 90-year tradition of the National United Front of Vietnam (1930-2020).

Works submitted for the prize must have been used by news agencies across the country between October 1, 2018, and September 20, 2019. Entries should be sent to the VFF’s headquarters at 46 Trang Thi street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi, before September 20, 2020.

The same day, Vietnam Union of Friendship Associations (VUFO) also hosted a meeting with journalists, reporters and communications officers, during which VUFO Chairwoman Nguyen Phuong Nga extended her deepest thanks to the guests for their positive contributions to popularising the union’s operations to the public.

She also called for enhanced cooperation between VUFO and press agencies in the coming times in order to help the union foster people-to-people diplomacy.
